Cow charm in 14K yellow gold

Share |

I had the honor and excitement of doing a couple of cow charms in 14K yellow gold for a couple of lucky ladies for Christmas. One was commissioned by a husband for his wife, both of whom my husband and I went to college with. I hope she is very surprised and happy! I've included three picture of the charm here. The cow charm can be purchased as just a charm or purchased as shown here, on a diamond cut, 14K yellow gold, 18 inch snake chain. Price for the gold charm is $210 and is based on a $750 gold market. Prices change weekly, so anyone interested in encouraged to call us (888-613-6019) to get the latest price quote. Chain prices are quite variable based on the length and style. These pieces are also available in 18K gold as well.

Cow Art and More welcomes painter Jon Ellis to the website!

Cow Art and More is excited to announce a new acrylic painter to the website, Jon Ellis. Jon has always had an unusual perspective of the world, often compared to a modern day Rockwell with a twist. His accomplished career, which has spanned several decades, has earned him numerous awards, accreditations as well as countless highly profiled commissions. Over the years Ellis’ fanciful work has graced the cover of many popular books, advertisements and periodicals, including the cover of Time and National Geographic. Ellis’ work had been exhibited at such prestigious galleries as the ‘Helander Gallery’ on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach, as well as, maintained in permanent archival collections at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington. Such notable private collectors as Attorney Robert Shapiro have also enjoyed ownership of his work. Jon has also had the opportunity for many years to serve as an adjunct professor in the Illustration department of The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. To read more about Jon, click here

Art show this weekend!

For those of you who are new to my work, I also do a line of jewelry not associated with agriculture for customers and galleries across the southeast. I have a show locally this coming weekend. Much of the work for that show is posted on my other website, www.kmsdesignsonline.com. It's a bit different than Cow Art and More, but I love the differences!

A little bit of the design process

Share |

The idea for the cow charm came from modeling her after the true type Holstein cow. This is a model cow that is a sculpture of the "breed ideal." This version of cows has always been the most lifelike for me. I've included picture of the original wax carving, before she was made into metal. She may look big here, but she can fit on a dime!

How this all got started

Share |
Some people know me as Kathy Swift, large animal veterinarian. Others know me as Katherine Swift, jewelry artist, without having any idea that I actually work on cows when I'm not making jewelry. Many of my cow friends and colleagues encouraged me to make a line of cow jewelry. I have resisted for quite a while since jewelry and metalsmithing are the exact opposite of veterinary medicine. Jewelry making allows me to be creative, while veterinary medicine tends to be more "by the book." I finally realized that with my background and agriculture experiences, I could create jewelry that truly represented cattle and farming. Has anyone else noticed how cattle sometimes get represented in art? I wanted something very realistic and sought to produce charms for a bracelet or a necklace that could truly represent what we all know as "insiders." Over the next few days, I will discuss how the ideas came to fruition and include a few pictures along the way.
